What Kind of Camera Do I Need?
The Bluebonnet Memories Photo Tips will primarily deal with digital photography but the dynamics of good photography will apply to film cameras as well.
The type of camera you use will is not nearly as important as how you use it. Knowing what your camera will do is very important.
Great Images are often taken with simple point & shoot cameras. Knowing how to take pictures is key.
DSLR(Digital Single Lens Reflex) cameras are more accomodating to taking good photography once we know the basics of good compsition. They offer more features and allow the use of interchangable lenses.
There are many good cameras on the market. I am prejudiced toward Nikon and Canon simply because they are industry leaders, have great support and you can find parts for them most anywhere in the world. They both offer the best training and education.
DSLR's at about $500 up. Good Point and Shoot cameras start at about $200.
What Accesories Would Help Me?
A UV Filter. Above all else it will protect your lens.
A Circuler Polorizer - It will add contrast to clouds and sky and will cut through the reflections in water.
A Hot Shoe Level - It helps keep the horizen straight. It's almost imposible to keep your images straight unless you have one.
A Tripod - A contraption you hate but learn to love. Some say a tripod should be your second lens.
If you have a DSLR: Good Lenses will serve you well. Avoid kit lenses but better ones that are not plastic. The faster the better - lower f sops are better lenses. A good 50mm f1.4 is a favorite. For action shooting the 70-200 F2.8 is great. A multipurpose lens like a 17-70 F2.8 is great.
